You don’t have to be a sailing enthusiast to enjoy the Barclays Jersey Boat Show – organisers are promising a whole host of entertainment over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Many of the Island’s leading performers will be taking to the Main Stage in St Helier’s Marina including local bands Sgt Pipon, Inside Job and Any Given Sunday; dance troupe Diamond Misfits and Jersey’s Parklife Choir.

Musicians from the visiting Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines will play a trumpet fanfare to herald the start of the show at 10 am on Saturday 3 May and the opening ceremony will see the hoisting of the official Boat Show flag.

Any Given Sunday will also perform on the Saturday bringing a mix of Hip Hop, Funk and RnB as well as 16-year-old singer and guitarist’ Lucas Pafitis and acclaimed Jersey dance troupe Diamond Misfits.

Inside Job return to the Show on the Sunday afternoon and Parklife Choir will be making their first appearance.

Jersey’s longest running band, Sgt Pipon make their Boat Show debut on Bank Holiday Monday bringing their unique style of folk, punk, rock and infamous lyrics on Island life to the stage.

Meanwhile youngsters can get up close to Durrell’s giant creepy crawlies and both the Saturday and Monday morning and even help prepare food parcels for the Trust’s Meerkat family.

The Main Stage will be adjacent to the New North Quay and is being sponsored this year by local stevedoring company, Solent Stevedores.

Managing Director Ian Jacobs said: “It is with great pleasure that Solent Stevedores has the opportunity to support our business partners by sponsoring the Main Stage at this year’s event, as we believe it will be a focal point of the show. This partnership with Ports of Jersey enables us to firmly demonstrate our long term commitment to the Island and its residents”.

Off stage, Jersey’s Lieutenant Governor and his wife Lady McColl will be at the traditional Sea Sunday Service on Weighbridge Square. It will start at 10.30 am with a cadet inspection followed by a presentation of the Jersey Cup to the crew of HMS Severn. The Service will close with a rendition of  “Beautiful Jersey” sung by local singer Sadie Rennard.

More acts are to be confirmed and will be posted on the Boat Show’s website www.jerseyboatshow.com and on the show’s social media pages.

Entry to the show is free.
