Natural look to dictate cosmetic trends for 2015

Tuesday 23 December 2014

A "face lift" with threads, a new generation of fillers and prescription face creams are three beauty trends to look out for on the Island next year.

While botox and fillers are expected to remain in demand, experts predict that a desire for a more natural look will determine which treatments women in Jersey choose.

The desire to look natural is part of a global trend towards procedures which makes clients look good, without anyone being able to tell what, or indeed, if, they have had anything done.

Even Katie Price, the pneumatically-enhanced former glamour model could be said to be following the trend – getting her breasts reduced to 32DD.

Dr Gertrude Huss, director of the Hill Street Clinic, St Helier, said: “Botox and fillers were the most popular treatments in 2014 and they are likely to remain major players in the aesthetic arena.

“The thing everyone wants at the moment is to look natural. The days of looking ‘done’ are over – even husbands agree.”

New procedures and products coming to Jersey for 2015 include the PDO Beauty Lift, Belotero Balance, and ZO creams.

The PDO Beauty Lift uses a thread made of polydioxandone which is inserted under the skin to stimulate collagen production and ‘lift’ the face. The threads, which are the same as those used in heart surgery, dissolve after a few months. Their effect is likened to botox, with smoother skin and relaxed muscles.

Belotero is a hyaluronic acid filler injected into the face to reduce moderate to severe lines. Manufactured by Merz Aesthetics, a German pharmaceutical firm, the soft gel is designed to work instantly, plumping up the skin to restore facial contours.

ZO creams are prescription strength face creams created by Dr Zein Obagi, the creator of the Obagi Blue Peel. The ZO range focuses on three forms of skin treatment: correction, stimulation and bleaching and blending pigmentation.

All of the above treatments should be available from next year at the Hill Street Clinic. Dr Huss said: “The age of our clients varies greatly and the sort of procedure someone in their 30s might want is very different to what will work for someone who is in their 40s or 50s. Younger patients are often looking for a skin boost which is more than a regular cream. They might go for something like Mesotherapy, which gives the skin a very concentrated mix of vitamins and antioxidants. Things like the PDO threads are more suitable for people with more mature skin.”
