How healthy is your child's lunchbox? Navigating nutritional labels to ensure children are getting the healthiest mix of foods possible in their lunchboxes can often prove a tricky task for parents – but it's about to get much easier in Jersey.

The 'Lunchbox Heroes’ campaign, a partnership between Public Health and the Channel Islands Co-op, aims to make it easier for parents and carers to identify nutritionally balanced food choices for children's lunchboxes.

The initiative introduced in-store signage across all Co-op stores in Jersey on Friday to highlight foods recommended by Public Health dietitians as healthy options for children's lunchboxes, while numerous resources including top tips and recipes also been made available online.

Professor Peter Bradley, Director of Public Health, said: “We hope that this new initiative, along with already established healthy eating programmes including school meals and Food4Thought, will support families whose schools are not yet offering hot school meals or who prefer to send their children with a lunchbox."

He added: “We are also working with our Public Health colleagues and CI Co-op in Guernsey to extend this initiative to shops in the other Islands.”

Perushani Augustine, Commercial Delivery Manager at CI Co-op, said: “We hope that our healthy lunchbox solutions will make life a little easier for parents and carers, and ensure their little heroes are looked after."
