A local golfer has made history - becoming the first female coach to join the team at the Royal Jersey Golf Club.
Alex Mollin has changed course and moved from Les Mielles Golf Club.
Alex said: “It’s quite a big deal when you look at the history of the club and that there hasn’t been any female pros so it’s an honour and a privilege.
"Golf is definitely still a man’s world. When I am away on training courses and there are usually very few women, but things are changing and they do need to change.”
She is determined to get more women out on the course enjoying the game and last year set up an all ladies golf society.
She said: “The Tee-Birds is a ladies golf initiative designed to get people to play social golf. It’s about encouraging people to stay in the game, promoting the social side, the health benefits, the fun experience.
“I set it up in January 2015 and we now have over 50 members. There are playing and coaching opportunities and it’s a chance to meet new people, and go out and play 9 holes of social golf.”
Alex is an award-winning member of the Professional Golfers' Association - she was Titleist PGA Assistant of the Year and PGA Female Assistant of the Year 2014 and also topped her class to win the GASP Coaching Award with top marks in her exams.
She is now preparing to tee off in the DSI Ltd PGA Challenge Islands Challenge next Wednesday and Thursday at Royal Jersey and La Moye - an event she has helped organise for the past four years.
