New nursery at Les Landes gets go-ahead

Sunday 14 November 2021

A new nursery at Les Landes School will be built after the project received planning permission last week.

The 30-place facility will be created by building an extension to the back of the current school to create two nursery classrooms.

A dedicated entrance hall and outdoor play area will be created off the northern building, behind St. George’s Church.

A new an indoor play space, manager’s office, parents’ room for meetings and a kitchen will also be built.

It is not yet known when the new nursery will open.

It has been the Government’s policy since 2015 to add nursery provision to primary schools that don’t yet have one, if possible. This has been a feature of successive capital programmes.

The Les Landes Nursery project has been allocated £1.05m for 2022 in the next Government Plan and a further £773,000 in 2023.

The Government said that the addition of a nursery at Les Landes "will provide continuity for families, as children move from nursery to reception, and was overwhelmingly supported by the Parish Assembly.”
