New team tackling dog poo

Friday 05 June 2015

A new team of dog walkers is taking the lead to try and clean up after Jersey’s pooches.

Jersey’s dogs produce 221 tons of poo every year and not everyone’s been binning it so the Brown family, who have just set up Doggie Trex, are determined to help clear the Island of the smelly, unsightly and dangerous brown mess.

They’re holding a big poop pick up at the Sand Dunes next month – one of the known dog poo ‘hotspots’ identified after the Environment department launched their dog poo campaign last month.

Julie Brown said: “In conjunction with the government’s Eco active promotion encouraging everyone to pick up their poo we thought it would be a great event to get Island dog owners and charities together to put something back or rather pick something up!

“There are far too many poo hot spots - Jardin D'Olivet, all the beaches, Royal Jersey Golf Club. We will first hold one at the Sand Dunes and the next event at another hot spot!”

Darren, Julie and Martyn Brown are busy picking up dog poo every day now they are walking other people’s pooches for a living. They are providing a service to anyone finding it hard to go walkies every day.

Julie said: “We understand that sometimes life throws stuff at us that even a poop bag can’t catch.”

Their big poop pick-up is on Sunday 12 July from 10.30 until midday and the Browns will have plenty of poop bags and hand wash at the ready. You’ll find them at La Carriere car park, between La Braye and La Pulente.
