Conservationists are hoping to get more young Islanders kitted out to go on a nature hunt out west.
The National Trust for Jersey has got a load of new activity backpacks for its members to hire at its Wetland Centre in St Ouen to help them engage more with the natural environment.
Each bag is filled with games, activities, information books, stories and craft activities and there’s a set of binoculars so that young nature lovers can get up close to some of the Island’s rarest wildlife.
President of the National Trust for Jersey Christopher Harris said: “Since the opening of the Wetland Centre in 2014, thousands of visitors have marveled at the facilities and rich abundance of wildlife that can be observed there.
“With the development of this fantastic new resource, it is hoped that young visitors will be given a new perspective and will encourage and inspire the next generation of twitchers!”
HSBC is sponsoring the packs that can be hired out for £5 a week and should have plenty to keep youngsters aged from two to 12 busy during half term.
Nick Winsor, the bank's Chief Executive Officer for the Channel Islands and Isle of Man said: “These Activity Backpacks are a terrific way for HSBC to educate young people about the importance of the environment, something that they can enjoy with friends and family.”
