Nominate your poo hotspots

Friday 27 May 2016

It's still causing a bit of a stink on the sand dunes but can you help spot other parts of the Island littered with dog poo?

Eco-Active have re-launched their big clean up campaign and want your nominations before their next big poo pick up a week on Sunday.

Last year's 'Proud of you for picking up my poo' campaign featuring 'Eric' the cartoon dog which encouraged dog owners to pick up after their pooches cut the amount of dog poo across Jersey by 88% and the team hope to match or beat that figure this time around.

Eco Active programme manager Jane Burns said: “The campaign was hugely successful in 2015 – people really got behind it. We’re relaunching for 2016, and one thing we know from people’s feedback is that there are still pockets of Jersey that are dog poo hotspots. We need people to let us know where the dog poo hotspots are, and that information needs to be as specific as possible. They can tell us through our Facebook and Twitter accounts (eco active Jersey / @eco active jersey) or by emailing ecoactive@gov.je.

“As with all litter campaigns it is important to remind people on a regular basis but as always it remains the responsibility of dog walkers to pick up after their dogs. We anticipate that some of the sites in the 2015 list will feature again. Unfortunately we know that open spaces like the sand dunes are still problem areas but it will be interesting to know where the Island would like us to focus our efforts.”

This year's campaign will be officially launched at the Big Poo Pick Up a week on Sunday at the upper car park by the sand dunes on Mont a La Brune from 10 am until 12 pm.

The number to beat this year is 270 - that's the number of bags of dog mess that were scooped up at the event last year.

The deadline for nominations is Sunday 5 June which is World Environment Day.
