Not everyone gets today off!

Friday 25 December 2015

The rest of us have been enjoying a festive, relaxed Christmas – but spare a thought for one set of workers who have been hard at it already.

Teams from the Parish of St Helier have been out cleaning and tidying after last night’s festivities to make the town look nice, and they’ll be out again on New Year’s Day.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft has asked the teams to get to work on Christmas morning because he says that families who want to take a walk on Christmas Day and tourists shouldn’t be faced with St Helier looking like a tip.

“Town gets quite messy over Christmas Eve with people out celebrating, so we have got our staff coming in – and we’ve done the same on New Year’s Day,” said Mr Crowcroft.

“I changed it from last year because a lot of people come to town for walks and it is really important that town looks clean.

“This is a bill that is being picked up by St Helier ratepayers, which should properly be picked up by taxpayers, which is why I’m pressing for a fair deal for St Helier from the Council of Ministers.”
