One month on…and still no digital covid passport system

Wednesday 17 November 2021

Jersey’s Government is still working to fix its digital covid passport system four weeks after its failed launch – and a solution is at least another month away.

A security issue allowing individuals to use dates of birth and Social Security numbers to access others’ vaccine passports was detected just hours after the online platform went live on 20 October.

Government and Microsoft officials began investigating the problem that night – but now, one month on, it is still yet to be resolved.

A Government spokesperson said this afternoon: “Officers continue to work on fixing the issues faced on the digital Covid Status Certificate (CSC) portal.

“Evidence of booster doses, including access to QR codes, is currently under development and we anticipate this will be available by 15 December.

“NHSx are currently building and developing the QR codes, so once these are made available to Jersey, we will be in a position to provide them on our Covid Status Certificates.”

They continued: “While the digital CSC portal is not live, islanders are reminded that they are able to call the Coronavirus Helpline who will email a PDF version of the CSC. This includes a QR code for both first and second doses administered.

“These QR codes are accepted in many countries, including all those that are part of the EU Gateway. However, Islanders must check the vaccination requirements of the country they are travelling to.”
