Open door to drink drive message

Friday 12 December 2014

The police are hoping what's behind the door of their advent calendar today will stop people who've had a drink from getting behind the wheel of their cars.

They say there are still Islanders putting themselves and others at risk on the roads.

Roads Safety Officer Philip Blake said: “The vast majority of drivers are responsible and sensible, but there are still a small number of people who for whatever reason will put themselves and others in danger by taking a chance in drink driving.

“We want everyone to have a happy and above all safe festive season, and not gamble with their lives and those of others by drink driving. Drink driving is entirely avoidable. There’s no excuse, there’s no good reason and there is no mitigation.”

Each day you can open up a new door of the Force's advent calendar and get some tips on how to look after yourself over the festive period.

The campaign is also tackling drinking responsibly as well as other issues like domestic abuse and shows what life is like in custody.

You can also get a glimpse into what it’s like working for the police over Christmas.

Their advent campaign runs for another week and you can open today’s door here.
