The new investigation into historical child abuse may not be grabbing national headlines in the same way as Operation Rectangle in 2007, but a fresh update by police shows that they are working 'tirelessly' on the case.

The States of Jersey Police have released an update on progress on "Operation Whistle", revealing that there are 31 ongoing investigation, and four files currently waiting for a prosecution decision by the Law Officer's department.

The statistics released this morning show that:

  • There are seven investigators on the team.

  • 26 new complaints have been made since Operation Whistle went live in June 2015.

  • Four "institutions" are subject to on-going investigations.

  • 57 suspects have been identified, including 16 'Persons of Public Prominence' or PPPs.

  • 33 of the suspects are dead, including 11 PPPs.

  • 41 named victims are currently engaged with officers.

  • Nine suspects have been arrested.

  • 13 have been interviewed under caution.

  • Two have been charged, with one conviction in February 2016.

  • Seven have been released on police bail pending further enquiries or legal advice.

  • Three files are currently with the Law Officers department for consideration of prosecution.

  • There are 31 on-going investigations.
