Oscar and Emmy winners join Jersey director's new film

Tuesday 06 October 2020

A collection of award-winning actors are set to join a Jersey-born director's latest film about a decorated Marine on a mission to save his boys from a 'non-human' threat.

It was revealed that Michael Pearce’s sci-fi movie, Invasion, had been bought for production by Amazon in July, and news about casting has been trickling out since, with the latest additions being CSI star Rory Cochrane and Morning Show actress Janina Gavankar.

The pair will join Star Wars: Rogue One’s Riz Ahmed, and Oscar-winning star of The Help, Octavia Spencer.

Invasion is co-written by Pearce with ‘Girl/Haji’ writer Joe Barton, and was developed by Film4 and Raw.

According to Deadline, the film will chart “how two young brothers go on the run with their father, a decorated Marine, who is on a rescue mission to save his boys from a non-human threat."

“As their journey takes them in increasingly dangerous and unexpected directions, the boys need to confront hard truths and leave their childhoods behind," the description reads.

The film has been in development since 2018, and follows Pearce’s 2019 BAFTA win for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer/Director/Producer for his Jersey-based film, ‘Beast’.

The film, which loosely drew upon elements of the notorious crimes of ‘The Beast of Jersey’ in the 1960s to tell a dark, violent love story, also received several British Independent Film Award nominations, and gained a Breakthrough British/Irish Filmmaker award for Pearce from the London Critics Circle Film Awards.
