Road safety petition now over 3,000

Monday 11 July 2016

Over 3,000 people have now signed a petition calling for immediate road safety changes at the Millennium Town Park.

The petition was started following the death of three-year-old Clinton Pringle, who was hit by a van near the park two weeks ago and died three days later of his injuries.

A friend of the Pringle family, Nicola McAteer, began the petition, demanding immediate alterations to the road lay-out around the park, which she insists is dangerous.

Jersey mother-of-two Mrs McAteer says she has been “overwhelmed” by the response to the petition, which now has 3,048 signatures.

Mrs McAteer, who is backed by the Clinton’s parents Michael and Stacey Pringle, says there is no obvious demarcation between road and pavement, which causes confusion to adults and children alike.

She said: “We want immediate changes made, not in six or 12 months’ time because by then we could be talking about another accident and another person injured. The problem around the park is that the road lay-out shows no distinction between road and pavement, so it causes confusion all round. If it is confusing to an adult like me, it is definitely going to be confusing to a little child. That is why we need change and we need it straight away.

“I’m overwhelmed by how many people have signed the petition and I hope more people continue to do so.”

A 38-year-old woman was arrested in connection with road traffic offences and has not been charged.

Clinton Pringle was on holiday in Jersey with his parents, who hail from near Glasgow, when the accident happened two weeks ago.
