New Harbour Master sails in

Sunday 07 December 2014

There’s a new man at the helm at the harbour who will be working to keep us all safe at sea and keeping an eye on our harbours.

Phil Buckley who is a former Royal Navy Captain in charge of nuclear submarines is the Island’s new Harbour Master and Chief Operating Officer at the Ports.

The 54-year old who comes from Cheshire spent 35 years in the Royal Navy, having served in the Falklands conflict as well as modern operations in the Middle East and Europe.

He was the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) lead for governance, assurance and regulation of Port Operations in all three military ports. He is a Younger Brother at Trinity House.

The dad-of-two who has moved to the Island with his wife Amanda takes over from Commodore Barry Goldman who will soon be sailing off home to West Sussex with his wife Judith. Mr Goldman who was appointed CBE in 2001 was in the job for almost two and a half years after a 36-year career in the Royal Navy and 10 years as Manager of the Port of London’s Vessel Traffic Services.
