Third attempt to convert physio centre to homes

Tuesday 31 January 2023

Developers are making a third bid to demolish a physiotherapy clinic in St. Saviour and turn it into homes.

The updated proposals include replacing Reaction Physiotherapy Clinic near Bon Air Lane with two three-bedroom dwellings.

The plans, which were submitted by an architect and design consultancy firm, J. Design Limited, are a re-submission of an earlier application made in December.

A previous application looked to site a three-bedroom and four-bedroom house there, before this was rejected by the Planning Committee.

A letter addressed to the Infrastructure, Housing and Environment Department sent on behalf of J. Design Limited read: "Having taken due account of the comments made by the members of the Committee and objectors our client has instructed us to amend this scheme to provide two traditionally styled three-bedroom dwellings similar to the house now called Mon Tresor which was recently constructed to the west of the Reaction Physiotherapy building.

"This revised design will overcome the anticipated reasons for refusal regarding the proposed design and appearance, the mass of the buildings/over-development and overlooking issues.

"The reduced footprint of the buildings on the site will also allow for larger gardens and a greater distance to the site boundaries."

The previous application in December was recommended for approval by the Planning Department but the Committee rejected it by five votes to one.

Applicant Judith de Carteret previously said that the building was not fit-for-purpose, and it was not economically viable to upgrade it. She added that she had tried to rent out and sell the property without success.
