Police have issued a photo of Jared Harrison, the 17-year-old who tragically died over the weekend.

Jared was found dead on Saturday morning at a house in St Helier. Police think he had been taking a white power, purported to be MDMA. Two teenagers were arrested on suspicion of importing a controlled substance, but have now been released on bail.

A 39-year-old woman spent part of Saturday afternoon at the police station helping officers with their inquiries, but have emphasised that she was not arrested.

Counsellors and youth workers have been supporting school students since Jared’s death. The Jersey Youth Service team has also been supporting young people in town over the weekend – their YES counselling service can be reached online at yes@youthservice.yc.je, or by phone on 766628 or 0800 7350121.

The Youth Enquiry Service headquarters next to the Social Security department in La Motte Street runs open drop in sessions from 12 noon to 6 pm on Mondays and Fridays, and from 3 pm to 6 pm on Wednesdays.

On Saturday, the detective leading the investigation into Jared’s death urged Islanders to be extremely careful with the drugs that he had been taking, and said they should contact them, using the anonymous Crimestoppers number if they didn’t want to say who they were.

At the time, Detective Chief Inspector Alison Fossey said: "Whilst this is an active investigation and we are limited in what we can say while that continues, we need to warn people of the dangers of taking any drug, in particular this one.

"If you have purchased this drug please do not take it, and please call us with any information relating to its origin either through the CID number of 612200 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
