Plans approved for new hangars at Airport

Plans have been approved for a £10m project to build three new 24,000 sq. ft. aircraft hangars to lease to private owners, which Ports of Jersey have called their "most significant landmark project to date."

The hangars will be built on the western part of the airfield and Ports of Jersey will be creating new grass banks and an 'acoustic fence' to reduce noise levels in a bid to address concerns.

They will also carry out landscaping work around the hangars to enhance the nearby environment.

The plans were approved on Thursday by the Planning Committee. Members had previously delayed their decision on the plans to find out more about the possible noise impact of the development. 

Following a review of a variety of hangars options, Ports of Jersey have selected Sprung, a Canadian company, to produce the hangars. The company manufactures hangars that have been tested to withstand harsh weather and climate conditions. They are also designed to be easily relocatable and, if required, reconfigurable, due to their versatile structure.
