Plans for bigger Colour Fun Run next year

Sunday 07 August 2016

Plans are underway to create even more colour on the beach next Summer and raise thousands for charity.

This year's Dandara Colour Fun Run saw 800 people running 5k along St Aubin's Bay and raising over £25,000 to help fund a new Paediatric care worker at Family Nursing & Home Care.

Organisers say they the charity is now well on its way to securing this vital new role for the community.

FNHC's Chief Exceutive Officer Julie Gafoor said: "The complex nature of life-limiting conditions in children means there is sometimes a shortage in the availability of respite care when something unexpected happens. This new appointment will help us to go above and beyond the level of respite care that is currently available for families, which means we will be able to provide responsive respite care support for more families in the Island than ever before."

The money raised by the Dandara Colour Fun Run was generated through ticket sales, individual sponsorships and sponsorships from the local business community.

Each colour station was sponsored by a local organisation; the headline sponsor Dandara was blue, UBS was red, JTC was purple, the Enhance Group was green and NED Bank Private Wealth was neon yellow.

Mrs Gafoor said: "On behalf of everyone at Family Nursing & Home Care, I would like to thank our corporate sponsors for helping to make the colour run such a success in its first year. We would also like to thank the hundreds of people who took part and raised additional sponsorship money from friends and family – every penny will go towards improving the lives of families that have children with life-limiting illnesses."

FNHC Fundraising Manager Ivo Le Maistre Smith said: "The feedback we have received from everyone who took part this year has been amazing. We knew an event like this would be popular but it was difficult to predict just how successful it would be. We’re hoping to expand the event next year so even more people and organisations can take part. We’ll be announcing details on our Facebook page later this year."
