Plans to convert a St. Brelade Hotel into 16 self-catering cottages with parking, a restaurant, reception, and outdoor facilities have been approved.
The approved plans for Hotel La Place, on Route du Coin, include demolishing the existing kitchen extension and installing various external alterations, including cladding and pergolas.
The planning application, submitted by MyIncroft Holdings, explained that the “self-catering units will be served with a reception and have a communal pool, similar to that currently provided by the hotel, and all units will have private access and amenity spaces along with one parking space each”.

A condition of the approval is that no part of the development can be occupied until the electric car charging facilities, as per the approved plans, have been fully installed.
The northern block of the hotel received permission to be converted into self-catering cottages in 2021, and the planning application to convert the remaining areas of the hotel into self-catering units claimed that “it has been established as the best and most desirable form of accommodation at this site”.

The application explained that “this has been proved by the highly successful self-catering cottages to the north of the hotel, and the four new self-catering units that were completed last year”.
The planning application also stated that the proposal will reduce both the occupancy and the site size by approximately 300sq/m.
This reduction was considered to have no significant impact on the character of the site and its surroundings, as expressed in the planning department's report.
The new cottages hope to allow “the hotel to adapt and continue to thrive and provide facilities for tourists and locals”.

Recommending the plans for approval, the planning officer's report added: “The proposal would largely retain the existing volume of the main building, demolish the existing single-story extensions, and the extensive alternations will be limited to the internal accommodation."
