Police to appoint interim commanding officers

Monday 17 July 2017

Two new senior police officers have been announced in the lead up to the current Chief Officer's retirement.

Rob Bastable is to become Acting Chief Officer and Julian Blazeby will be Acting Deputy Chief Officer, from the end of July.

The interim appointments have been made ahead of current Chief Officer Mike Bowron's full retirement in October of this year.

Mr Bastable currently serves as the Deputy Chief Officer with responsibility for operational policing and Mr Blazeby is Director, Major Investigations, for the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Commenting on the appointments, Home Affairs Minister, Deputy Kristina Moore said: "I am very pleased to confirm my intention to make these interim appointments in order to ensure a robust command structure is maintained prior to the retirement of the current Chief Officer. Rob and Julian are very experienced senior officers and I look forward to working with them in the coming months.”
