Missing man’s mum: "In my heart I still believe Ady’s alive"

Wednesday 20 January 2016

The heartbroken mother of missing Adrian Lynch, who disappeared 45 days ago, says in her heart she believes he's still alive and that someone knows something about what has happened to him.

Her 20-year-old son never made it home after his work's night out in December and she's appealing for whoever might know where he is to come forward and give him "one more chance to live".

Meanwhile Police are revisiting homes and properties in Carrefour Selous and hoping to find his passport and driving licence, they now think he had with him the night he went missing.

In a statement issued this morning, Adrian's mum Mameal said: "For the first time in my life, I’ve never been so proud to be a mum. That may sound strange and it’s a hard thing to explain. It’s because people have been helping someone they have never met before, but they do it because Ady is someone’s loved one, they could see how desperate we are and wanted to help, that makes me so proud.

"I have also never been so proud of the people of Jersey who have been so supportive and understanding. Every single person I have spoken to has wanted to help. They have given us the energy to stay focussed and carry on.

"In my heart I still believe Ady is alive and we all need an answer as to where he is.

"Whatever has happened, we can’t change that. Personally, I believe someone knows something, so please give Ady a second chance to live or be someone who he wants to be, to come back to someone who loves him and who wants him. Just give him one more chance to live."

Adrian was last spotted on CCTV near Thislegrove heading towards St John’s in the early hours of 5 December and then back down the road but there have been no reported sightings of him since 2.17 am that morning.

He’d been been dropped off by taxi at Carrefour Selous some two hours earlier and his mobile phone, wallet and belt have all since been discovered in the area.

Police now think he left the main road and returned to Carrefour Selous sometime after 2.30 am, later than they originally thought and have been told by someone who knew him that it wasn’t unusual for Adrian to take his belt off and carry it.

They’ve covered a number of kilometres and searched private grounds and outbuildings in the immediate and surrounding areas in the early days of the investigation when they also did house to house enquiries but they haven't yet found any further trace of Adrian.

They have now written to people living in the area to let them know they'll be back to carry out another search and to thank them for their help so far with the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Turner said: “Despite a number of appeals for further information and in the knowledge that there were vehicles passing through the area after 02:17, I now believe that Adrian left the main road and returned to the Carrefour Selous area, probably via Rue de la Golarde and the Cooks Roses Farm complex.

“We know many of these people will have checked their properties, and indeed we too have checked them in the early stages of enquiry, however given the current investigative assessment and with regard to items Adrian is believed to have been in possession of which were not known at the challenging outset of search activity, I believe we need to conduct search activity in this area again.

“We remain committed to finding Adrian and establishing what happened to him, and I want to thank everyone for their support and cooperation in this matter, and apologise for any inconvenience that this further activity will cause.”

Adrian's sister Alana still hopes he'll be home in time to celebrate her 18th birthday with her.

She said: "I just want my big brother to come back to us. Please, please, let’s go find him. Thank you, everybody who is helping."
