Beach body believed to be man reported missing hours earlier

Tuesday 19 January 2016

Police are trying to get hold of the family of the man found dead by a dog-walker on St Ouen’s beach early yesterday morning.

They now say that they "strongly believe" he’s the same man reported missing in the early hours of Monday but haven’t formally identified him until they can contact his family who are not believed to be in the Island.

A missing person inquiry was launched in the very early hours of Monday after the man was reported missing. The disappearance is not linked to the ongoing operation regarding missing Adrian Lynch.

The body was discovered by a dog walker on the beach near Big Vern’s at around 5.30 am.

Police are carrying out an investigation into his death and have informed the Deputy Viscount but don’t believe it’s suspicious.

In a statement yesterday, they said: “A Force Medical Examiner has examined the body in situ and at this time does not believe the death to be suspicious; however as is standard practice following a death of this nature an investigation has begun on behalf of the Deputy Viscount.”
