Police are urging islanders to use a new dedicated email address for reporting breaches of lockdown rules after being overwhelmed with calls.
“We’re still getting a high number of calls for advice on the 'Stay Home Order' and to report breaches. This is placing a significant demand on our control room staff and it’s reducing their ability to deal with reports of crime and other requests for help," Acting Chief Inspector Craig Jackson explained.
“Please do not call us if you have questions about the detail of the Order or, if you believe that an individual or business has breached the regulations, the government has a helpline to call if you have queries and they have also set up a specific email address for any reports regarding people not isolating.
"We are asking the public to use these methods and not to call police about these matters.”
Instead, anyone with concerns about people not isolating are urged to write to notisolating@gov.je, providing the following information.
A dedicated team will then respond to the reports, and raise the most serious issues with Police.
However, the force said that they would still respond to reports of "reporting large gatherings happening at the time, targeted or intentional spreading of the virus and where immediate life is in danger."
Anyone who simply wants more information about coronavirus or to check whether they should be tested should call the government's dedicated helpline.
It comes after four islanders were fined this week for breaking rules intended to curb the spread of covid-19 in the local community.
One man was arrested in Millennium Park for drinking cans of larger in what a Magistrate described as a "flagrant breach" of the new rules, while three people today received fines totalling over £1,000 between them for flouting the rules.
