Police seek baseball bat in connection with teen fight

Wednesday 26 June 2019

Police are asking for the public's help in locating a metal baseball bat they believe was involved in an attack on a teen, which led to him being airlifted to Southampton for emergency treatment.

Police said a fight between the two males - believed to know each other - took place at Grand Vaux, St. Helier, between 14:00 and 15:00.

According to the Force, it started on Grand Vaux Road outside Sutton Court and carried onto Whiteley Close, where a 17-year-old was seriously injured, leading him to be airlifted to Southampton Hospital for emergency treatment for head injuries.

This morning, they announced that a 15-year-old was in their custody after being arrested on suspicion of grave and criminal assault. This afternoon, they said he has now been released without charge while investigations by the Serious Crime Unit continue.

They are now asking members of the public to get in contact if they have found, seen or have any information relating to a baseball bat they say may have been used in the alleged brawl.

It is described as "sky blue" and made of metal, and anyone with further information about the item should contact them on 612200.

In a statement this afternoon, a spokesperson added: "We want to assure members of the public, that this was an isolated incident between two boys that knew each other and we have no reason to believe that there is any further risk to public safety."
