St. Saviour asks if parishioners want green waste recycling scheme

Sunday 23 October 2022

Parishioners in St. Saviour are being asked whether they would like their garden waste collected from their homes, for recycling.

During the pandemic, the Parish provided a temporary garden waste recycling collection service - now parishioners are being asked if they would like it to become permanent.

They can complete a survey  online or get the form from the Parish Hall until Friday 28 October.

Connétable of St. Saviour, Kevin Lewis said: “We are committed to doing all we can to making a household garden waste recycling service easily accessible for the Parish community and to do our part in helping the environment by reducing the number of car journeys made by parishioners to La Collette.

"We are proposing a fortnightly kerbside collection service from February to October with the garden waste being delivered to La Collette for composting.

"The proposed service is expected to cost between £30-£45 per subscribing household per year (depending on the take-up)."

Piers Tharme, Government of Jersey Recycling Manager, said: "Making recycling easy helps people to recycle more and a household garden waste recycling collection could help homes in St Saviour, especially those without private transport who find it difficult to come to La Collette.

"We look forward to the results of St. Saviour's survey."
