Praying for St Helier Angels

If you want to make someone's Christmas that little bit easier, and to help raise money for charity at the same time, then becoming a St Helier Angel could be the way forward.

The parish is looking for volunteers, who in exchange for a donation to the Jersey Association of Charities, will help Islanders out over the festive period by wrapping and carrying presents, and handing out information about Fete de Noue activities.

The highly successful scheme is now in its sixth year, and a number of students from Haute Vallee have already signed up. But the parish says there's still space for more 'angels'. If you're interested in gaining your wings you're asked to email Anna Renouf by clicking here.

All of the volunteers will receive training in customer service from Louise Scambler of the Resilience Development Company who has donated her time on Wednesday 16 November. Local artist Marlene dos Santos will also be providing gift wrapping training to the volunteers on Tuesday 15 November. 

The angels will be located in a wooden chalet on Broad Street between 10:00 and 16:00 on Saturdays and Sundays from the 26 November until 18 December, and will be  easy to spot thanks to their distinctive uniforms.

The scheme is being backed telecoms firm Sure. The company's marketing and PR manager, Natalie Lynch, said: “The St Helier Angels service is a great way to get the community to come together and help one another. Town can get very busy at this time of year so we need plenty of volunteers to make it a great place to shop and to ease the stress for as many people as we can during this joyful period."
