Prisoners at La Moye prison are this week working with a UK charity to write and record an album.

The series of six-day workshops with two professional musicians from UK charity Finding Rhythms began yesterday.

As part of 'Songs of Freedom', inmates are being invited to express themselves through song and learn how to produce music using digital software to create the finished product.

Once the album is complete, it will be launched at a listening party.

HMP La Moye is working in partnership with The Moving Arts Collective to deliver the project.

The small artist collective fundraised to bring Finding Rhythms to Jersey, with collective member Esther Rose Parkes Heinrichs supporting on the delivery.

UK charity Finding Rhythms has worked with more than 350 people in 36 UK prisons over the last 12 years, resulting in the creation of over 800 songs and nearly 100 albums of original music.

The charity aims to "empower marginalised and disadvantaged individuals to improve their lives", according to its website.

"Our distinctive approach gives beneficiaries confidence, self-belief and soft skills preparing them for a better future in society and supporting desistance."
