Quack! Quack! Easter Duck Race returns

Saturday 31 March 2018

Up to 1,300 yellow plastic ducks will be launched into the stream at Le Perquage, at Sandybrook, today for the popular Easter Duck Race in aid of Autism Jersey.

The plastic ducks will splash into the water at 14:30 before "racing" downstream to the finishing point with the first three across the line winning a prize.

The top prize will be a Smart TV, donated by YESSS Electrical. Winners will also be able to snag family memberships to Tamba Park and Jersey Heritage. There will also be spot prizes of chocolate eggs and a prize for the last duck home.

The event, which is supported by Romerils, will include plenty of other activities for families to enjoy along the Perquage, including charity stalls, a Star Wars bouncy castle and face-painting. The Star Wars Garrison will also be on deck to greet participants.

Organiser Dr Helen Miles, vice-chair of Autism Jersey, said: "Every year the duck race is a great, fun event with lots of families coming down to take part. We are grateful to Romerils for their support. We hope this year will be just as successful and we will raise lots of money for a very important cause."

The Duck Race is one of many events being put on by the charity to mark their "awesome" month of fundraising and awareness. On Sunday, Jersey Autism's Boutique manager, Karen Gallichan, will kick off the series of events with a 'Dip at Dawn' at 06:3 at Anne Port. In September, she will be swimming the English Channel and is hoping to raise £10,000 for an Autism Jersey bursary.

Other events in April include an Autism Awareness Flag Day on 13 April and a 'Different Shoes' day on 27 April for offices, schools and clubs to raise money.
