Remains of missing yachtsman found in bay

Wednesday 17 May 2017

The remains of a man who went missing on Christmas Eve 2014, and was feared to have taken his own life, have been found by an diver on the west coast, nearly two and a half years since his disappearance.

61-year-old Roy Paul Deeming went missing on December 24 2014.

Police found his yacht, Desirée, on Christmas Day floating unoccupied a mile offshore to the southwest of Corbiere.

His disappearance sparked a major search by RNLI Lifeboats, the Jersey Coastguard, French Naval Rescue helicopter and several dive teams, but his body was never recovered.

A Police statement on January 1 2015 indicated that the lost islander had been in a “low state of mind and…had indicated an intention to take his own life.”

In March this year,  a local diver spotted the remains of a body part on the Island’s west coast. Forensic examinations have today confirmed that the remains are those of Mr Deeming.

The Police will continue investigations into his death with the Deputy Viscount.
