A Jerseyman is ‘ringing’ in the festive season with a rather unusual Christmas gift.
Andy Osborne, who owns the Vehicle Workshop in St. Peter, decided to treat himself ahead of the big day by bidding on a phone box in the Christmas Charity Auction.
In total, he spent £1,000 on the decommissioned former telecoms portal, which he is now considering transforming into a bar in his garden – or a greenhouse, if his daughter has her way.

It was delivered to his work on Monday (23 December), where he’ll carry out the restoration.
While repainting is on the cards, Andy has pledged to keep the box Jersey’s signature yellow.
The unusual Christmas giveaway by JT comes as part of a wider initiative to give phone boxes no longer widely used by the public a new lease of life.

“We are delighted to have helped make this (very unusual!) Christmas wish come true,” Tamara O’Brien, JT Group Head of Customer Experience, said.
“We are all much more conscious these days of finding a useful new purpose for something, after its initial ‘life’ had ended.
“We are looking forward to seeing what innovative uses can be found for this phone box. I know others have been used as pop-up shops, coffee stands and even a mini-disco!"

She continued: "If islanders are still using the boxes for their original purpose then we will keep them, but if not, then finding an innovative new use makes perfect sense.”
