Rita Ora to hit Weekender festival in September

Friday 16 March 2018

Chart-topping British singer Rita Ora will take to the Weekender stage this September, organisers have revealed.

The 29-year-old, who rose to prominence with her debut single ‘Hot Right Now’ in 2012, will grace the festival stage on Sunday.

That was followed by a string of pop hits - amongst which was 'RIP', featuring Tinie Tempah and Chase and Status - and an appearance as a coach on BBC's The Voice singing contest.

But her biggest successes were reached last year, with three hitting the UK top ten: Ed Sheeran collaboration ‘Your Song’, Avicii’s ‘Lonely Together’ and Anywhere, which peaked at number two.

Award-winner Ora has scooped a number of accolades over the years, including a MOBO, MTV Europe Music Award and an Urban Music Award, as well as being nominated for three BRIT Awards and four BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards.

She’ll be playing the festival on its second day, Sunday 2 September. According to organisers, the singer is “sure to leave Jersey’s Weekenders feeling in love.”

Ora is the next act to join soulful Rag’N’Bone man on the Weekender agenda.

The singer, whose real name is Rory Graham, released his first album Human last year, which went platinum just three weeks later.

Further acts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

This year's festival will be the Weekender's second edition. The new festival was set up by former Jersey Live organiser Warren Le Sueur, after it was announced in January 2017 that the much-loved island music event would be coming to an end after 13 years.
