Woman accused of Beaumont arson

Thursday 21 May 2020

A woman in her 60s has been charged with intentionally setting fire to a property in Beaumont, and will have her case heard in the Royal Court.

The defendant, whom Express has chosen not to name, appeared before Magistrate Bridget Shaw by video link yesterday.

Appearing for the prosecution, Legal Adviser Advocate Susie Sharpe read the single charge to the Magistrate's Court - alleging that the woman committed arson at the property on Monday (18 May 2020).

Having considered the facts, the Magistrate decided that the case is “too serious” to be heard in the lower court.

Advocate Sarah Dale represented the defendant as the defence lawyer on duty at the remand court.

A date was set for the matter to be formally sent to the Royal Court and the defendant was remanded in custody.
