School covid cases continue to rise

Six more JCG students have been diagnosed with covid, and three Victoria College students.

The Government said the affected students from the girls’ school have been isolating at home since last Thursday (5 November), alongside the rest of their households.

The students from the boys’ college with the virus are also in isolation. 

A Department for Children, Young People, Education and Skills spokesperson commented: “Parents have been informed and in order to respect the privacy of the students no further information will be provided about them.   

“The colleges will remain open following advice from Environmental and Public Health.

“We are committed to supporting our students who have been impacted by the pandemic. Students who have to be at home due to Public Health guidelines will continue to receive school work online, from today, so that they can continue with their education.”

Yesterday, the medic leading Jersey’s response to the pandemic said that young people socialising and partying had had a “significant” impact on the spread of covid in the community.

Given the level of community transmission, which was largely said to be the result of a number of large gatherings, Dr Ivan Muscat described the island as being at a “tipping point" and said that lockdown may need to be considered in future if numbers can't be kept under control.

According to today's covid statistics, the number of active cases in the Island is 126.

66 cases are symptomatic and 60 cases are asymptomatic.

None are in hospital.
