Vets say they’re doing everything to save the sea turtle that washed up on our shores over the weekend.

Terri, who’s thought to be an endangered Loggerhead turtle, is in the hands of New Era Vets who say she is still very weak.

She was found by John Battrick who was out walking his dog on Sunday on the stretch of beach between the Dicq Shack and the Rice Bowl in St Clement.

We are still going. Still very weak but slowly increasing temperature. At present she is not taking fluids orally so we are giving just fluids into her shell. LONG WAY TO GO THOUGH!

Her vets say she was cold stunned with some shell damage and signs of infection. After an appeal on social media the vets found a tank big enough for her and are working to raise her temperature which needs to be increased very very slowly by a degree each day.

They say she is not taking any fluids orally at the moment so they are giving her them into her shell but say there's still a long way to go to get her better.

A number of very sick turtles have washed up in the UK over the last month.

Five of the seven species of marine turtles have been recorded in UK waters - the leatherback, loggerhead, Kemp’s ridley, green and hawksbill turtles. The United Kingdom Turtle code says you shouldn't touch a washed up turtle if it's dead and you should always wear rubber gloves if handling them.

Loggerhead turtles can reach lengths of 1.5 metres.
