Severe weather forces Condor to cancel some sailings

Friday 20 October 2017

With gale force eight winds gusting to 60mph expected to hit the islands later today and into Saturday Condor has been forced to reschedule many of its sailings.

Although the Condor Liberation will operate a round trip between Poole and Guernsey today, the inter-island sailing between Guernsey and Jersey has been cancelled.

The Liberation will depart Poole at 13:00 and arrive in St Peter Port at 16:00, before returning at 16:45 and reaching Poole at 19:45. Passengers travelling from Guernsey to Jersey can re- book onto the Commodore Clipper afternoon sailing.

Services from Portsmouth on Commodore Clipper and between St Malo and Jersey on Condor Rapide are expected to operate as planned.

On Saturday 21 October, all fast ferry sailings between Poole, the Channel Islands and St Malo have been cancelled. The widely reported extreme weather is giving rise to conditions in excess of the legal limits for safe operation.

Paul Luxon, CEO, said, ‘We were aware that the prevailing weather was likely to have an impact this weekend so our proactive call for passengers earlier this week to bring forward their journeys should mean many are able to travel for the half term holiday.’

‘It is regrettable that any services have to be cancelled but I would emphasise that safety is our top priority and our customer facing teams have worked hard to help passengers rearrange their travel plans.’

Condor has called in additional resources to its customer care department to notify and advise passengers who can change their date of travel, move to other sailings or receive a full refund. The company is not applying any amendment fee for those wishing to amend their dates of travel during the current period of rough weather.

The company says it is monitoring forecasts for Sunday 22 October and will issue an update at 09:00 tomorrow.
