Singer-songwriter stokes new musical ‘fires’

Friday 07 December 2018

A local indie pop musician has dropped a new track called 'Fires', celebrating young people’s ability to create change in an increasingly "disconnected" world.

Tadhg Daly, a Jersey-Irish singer-songwriter, is stoking his own musical fire with today's release of the single, which he hopes will inspire listeners to “love and live in every moment."

Having supported James Blunt at Fort Regent a few months ago, Daly's latest song and accompanying music video round off a year of achievements for the young musician.

‘Fires’ comes hot on the heels of Tadhg’s recent track ‘Too Late’, which he debuted to a home crowd at a charity gig for Peas & Glove earlier this year - his first headline show in Jersey for nearly two years.

Tadhg has enjoyed much success surrounding his latest releases, with ‘Too Late’ having been played almost 12,000 times on music streaming platform Spotify.

The Jersey-born indie singer says that ‘Fires’ has a symbolic message behind the music. “Fires is a metaphor for the new generation of young people coming into the world and bringing about a shift in consciousness and positive change," he explained.

“I feel that we have found ourselves in a place… where we are hugely disconnected from ourselves, one another and the world around us. This song is about a new wave of beings. The bright-eyed and reignited spirits here to guide the way back home.”

Review: Fires - Tadhg Daly (★★★★)

Express listened to the promising singer-songwriter’s new track ahead of its release, and found that, despite its fiery name, Tadhg Daly's latest offering is characteristically cool.

Daly’s crystal clear voice is allowed to be the central focus in what is a fairly mellow, but stirring song. 'Fires' is more of a pause for reflection than the upbeat, jovial storytelling of his previous song, ‘Too Late’, as Daly appears to embark on a musical journey letting listeners into his more vulnerable side.

His gentle vocals which, almost whispering at the start, coax us into the palm of his hand had far more room to build even higher as the song reached its climax. A more drastic and gritty change of pace as the ‘fires’ build would have been welcome to take the single to another level.

‘Fires’ is just further proof that Daly has his finger firmly on the trending pulse as he continues to rise to the challenge of writing catchy music with a heart.
