A local man, whose first daughter was stillborn at full-term, is inviting islanders to join him on a sprint out to Seymour Tower to raise money for other islanders that have suffered baby loss.
Helier de Veulle is organising this weekend’s ‘Seymour Sprint’ to raise funds for charity Philip's Footprints.
The 10km run, taking place this Saturday at 14:00, will take islanders from Long Beach following the shoreline to the Seymour Slip, heading out across the Ramsar site to Seymour Tower, before then heading back.
There will also be a 6km option along the beach and back, for those who are feeling they want something shorter.
Last year, Helier’s race, organised as part of his fundraising for the Virgin London Marathon, raised just over £2,500 for the charity, which also funds professional training, antenatal equipment and information for pregnant women on the island.
Feedback from the event last year described the scenes as showing “wet feet, but grins like Cheshire Cats.”
The fundraiser has a particularly personal touch for Helier too - in November 2007, Helier and his wife Vicky lost their first-born daughter, Katherine, who was stillborn at full term.
Similarly, the following March, Jo Nash and her husband Paul lost their son Philip, who became the inspiration for Philip’s Footprints.
Vicky and Jo then found each other on a support forum, leading to the pair becoming staunch supporters of Philip’s Footprints since its establishment.
