Help to stamp out problems for local wildlife

New stamps out this week should help raise awareness of the sticky situation a lot of our local wildlife is in.

Jersey Post has teamed up with the Environment department to produce the set of six stamps featuring six of the Island’s most endangered species.

The puffin, agile frog, red squirrel, green lizard, hedgehog and barn owl, all protected by Jersey’s Biodiversity Strategy, will be heading off in all directions when they go on sale on Wednesday.

Eco-Active Programme Manager Jane Burns said: “The stamps are beautiful and it’s fantastic to see Jersey’s endangered species presented in this way. One of our main objectives here at Eco-Active Jersey is to involve the Jersey community in monitoring and conserving local wildlife. We’re hoping the stamps will help to raise awareness of Jersey’s protected species and encourage Islanders to become involved in our ongoing Eco-Active Campaign.”

The stamps are part of the new Post & Go range available from the vending machine in the Broad Street Post Office.

Jersey Post’s Head of Philatic Melanie Gouzinis said: “Post & Go stamps are a new type of self-adhesive stamp label with the postage printed on demand. Our Post & Go kiosk arrived at Broad Street Post Office in September and allows customers to vend single stamps or strips of six using a debit or credit card.

“Jersey is very proud of its rare and varied wildlife and we wanted our first pictorial Post & Go stamp issue to showcase some of the Island’s protected species. The work that Eco-Active Jersey does within the Island is invaluable and it’s been brilliant to be able to support them with this issue.”
