Stamps right on track at the Post Office

Saturday 21 March 2015

They’ve been played with for over 100 years and Jersey Post are helping to make sure one of the most loved traditional toys stick around for years to come.

They’ve gone full steam ahead with their latest stamps featuring six Hornby model trains and are working with the Jersey Model Railway Club who are on track for next week’s launch.

Working models of all six trains that appear on the stamps will be chugging around the Broad Street post office from Tuesday until Friday.

Customers will get to see the British Pullman, the GWR Passenger Freight, the Flying Scotsman, the Cornishman, the Mixed Freight train and the Caledonian Belle and are in with a chance of winning a Stamps First Day Cover from the new issue in a free prize draw.

Jersey Post have been working with design agency True North and Hornby Hobbies Ltd on the stamps that are part of this year’s Europa Issue “Traditional Toys” and feature actual artwork used on the Hornby train set boxes.

Jersey Post’s Head of Philatelic Melanie Gouzinis said: “The model train is one of the most loved and most enduring toys of all time and, undoubtedly, the most widely recognised brand of model railway is Hornby. We were delighted to collaborate with Hornby on this project and the stamps are sure to bring back fond memories for adults, whilst also appealing to a younger audience.

“Every year, European Postal Administrations are given a stamp issue title to interpret by PostEurop, the trade association that has been representing European public postal operators since 1993 and this year the theme is Traditional Toys.  It’s always interesting to see how postal administrations interpret the title and we’re really pleased with how our train set stamps have turned out.”

You can buy the stamps from any branch of Jersey Post from 24 March.
