Still the Michelin stars of Jersey dining

Tuesday 04 October 2016

Three Jersey restaurants have retained their Michelin titles, proving they’re still the shining stars of the Island’s gastronomic scene, it was revealed last night.

The 2017 Michelin Star Guide to the world’s most dazzling dining experiences was released in a ceremony and live broadcast - and it was good news for Jersey's Bohemia, Ormer by Shaun Rankin and Ocean Restaurant, with all three retaining their stars.

In what has been a successful year for Ormer, the restaurant also celebrated retaining 3AA Rosettes and being shortlisted for The Food and Travel ‘Outside London Restaurant of the Year Award’.

The Michelin Guide described the restaurant’s aesthetic as “elegant” and “intimate yet buzzy”, while praising its cooking for being “refined yet assured, and uses only the very best seasonal Island produce”.

Chief Proprietor Shaun Rankin said he was “elated” to have retained the star, claiming that the award “represents the entire operation at Ormer, from cooking, through to the front of house, so it’s an incredible achievement”.

Ocean Restaurant at The Atlantic Hotel also had reason to pop the champagne, having reached a milestone in the eatery’s history: retaining its star for 11 years - and all under the same Head Chef. It is the only restaurant on the Island to have done so for so long.

Owner Patrick Burke commented: “All of our team work incredibly hard to deliver the highest quality food and service, using the freshest local ingredients, to make both restaurants so special when it comes to delivering an exciting dining experience.

“To consistently deliver the exacting standards needed to impress the Michelin inspectors is a testament to Mark, his chefs and the whole team. I’m incredibly proud of them to have consistently delivered year in and year out since Ocean Restaurant was first awarded its Michelin star status in 2007.”

The highest honour in the industry, the Michelin Star evaluations see restaurants undergo intense assessment of their quality, mastering of flavours, personality of cuisine, value and consistency. With the Island's top gastronomic outlets having secured success in the 2017 rankings,
Jersey tastebuds can rest assured that they are in good hands for another year.
