Stroke survivors tackle challenging walk

Sunday 21 July 2019

Stroke and brain injury survivors will today tackle the "considerable challenge" of a mile-long walk in order to raise money while showing others how the experience affects them.

The 'Step Out For Stroke' survivors’ walk - run by charity the Stroke Association - is a nationwide event.

Jersey's edition will be taking place along the Esplanade today along with family and friends, with islanders invited to cheer them along during the mile-long challenge.

All the money raised locally will be staying on the island to further help stroke survivors in Jersey.

Following the Resolution Run in April, the walk is the Stroke Association’s second fundraising event in Jersey this year, both sponsored by Ravenscroft.

Tracy O’Regan, Stroke Association fundraising and operations manager, said: “Step Out for Stroke is the perfect opportunity for stroke survivors, friends and families to take part in a walk together.”

“A mile long walk is a considerable challenge for someone who has had stroke but hopefully the fact that with every step they take, they help raise awareness of a stroke and vital funds for our work in supporting those affected by stroke will be a huge incentive.”

Registration will take place at the seafront opposite Grand Jersey, from 10:00, with the walk starting at 11:00.
