Man arrested after car crashes into house

Saturday 10 August 2019

A man in his 40s has been arrested and a Police investigation opened after a BMW crashed on Queen’s Road last night, causing two people to be taken to hospital.

Police said the crash happened around 21:30 after the BMW attempted to overtake a white van travelling up Queen’s Road.

However, the blue car lost control, crashing into a parked Ford Focus, pushing it into a nearby house.

The Fire and Rescue Service were called to assist with the aftermath of the crash, which saw a “male casualty” have to be cut from the BMW using hydraulic equipment.

Another occupant of the BMW was also taken to A&E to receive medical treatment.

Police said in a statement this morning that the pair’s injuries “are not thought to be life-threatening”, adding that they have since been discharged from hospital.

No one was in the Ford Focus or the property at the time, but both sustained “significant damage”.

A Police investigation has since been opened and a man in his 40s, who Police say is suspected to be the BMW’s driver, has been arrested.

The road, which was closed while Fire and Rescue officials made the scene safe, remains inaccessible this morning as the Police probe continues. Fire and Rescue Service Watch Commander Ryan thanked the public for their patience at this time.

A Police spokesperson said that they are already “speaking to a number of witnesses” about what happened, but added that they were aware “a number of bystanders” had mobile phone footage of the crash or the aftermath.

Anyone with photos, videos or further information about the incident is urged to get in touch by calling 612612 or making an anonymous report via the Crimestoppers website.
