A young man caught with cannabis and ecstasy tablets with a street value of around £10,000 has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Joshua Samuel Gill, who has just turned 20 years old, was still a teenager when he was caught with Class A drugs like MDMA, which he intended to supply to his friends.

Gill admitted to all six counts of drugs-related offences brought against him and appeared in the Royal Court on Friday for sentencing.

The court heard that Gill was arrested after being stopped during a routine road check and the officer could smell cannabis coming from his car.

Just over 25g of cannabis was seized from his car and later Police found three-and-a-half bars of cannabis resin during a search of his home address.

Text messages on Gill’s phone showed that he had made offers to supply cocaine, and had dealt approximately 33 ecstasy tablets, two grams of MDMA powder and 125g of cannabis.

In total, the drugs which Gill either had in his possession or had already supplied were found to have a street value between £8,116 to £10,340.

The Bailiff, Sir William Bailhache, presiding, addressed Gill when handing down his sentence: “The main reason for coming down from the starting point of seven years is your age… You need to address your cannabis taking, you really do.”
