Teenage motorcyclist killed in crash

Friday 29 January 2016

A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash outside St Saviour’s Hospital yesterday afternoon.

The male motorcycle rider was the only person injured in the crash, which happened at around 4.30 pm.

He has not yet been named.

Floral tributes to the young man have already been left at the scene.

Police have confirmed that no one has been arrested in connection with the crash, but that the driver of a car involved - a 45-year old woman who had been driving a grey Land Rover Freelander - was treated at the scene.

Liberty Bus issued a statement this morning saying that one of their vehicles was at the scene of the crash collecting passengers from a nearby bus-stop:

"We can confirm that one of our vehicles was witness to the accident in St Saviour last night. Our vehicle was not involved in the collision and was stationary at the bus stop, boarding passengers at the time. The CCTV from the vehicle has been supplied to the States of Jersey Police to assist with their investigation. Our thoughts are with the family at this incredibly sad time."

The teenage motorcyclist had been riding a black Harley Davidson - his family have been told about the accident and are being supported by specially-trained Family Liaison Officers.

It is understood that the bus was stopped at the time of the accident.

The road was closed for seven hours from 5 pm to midnight as police, firefighters and ambulance crew worked at the scene.

People who were at the scene of the accident have been interviewed by police, but no-one has been arrested and the crash inquiry is not being treated as a criminal investigation at this stage.

Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the accident, or who saw the vehicles before it took place.

Anyone with any information has been asked to contact the police on 612612 or on the anonymous Crimestoppers number 0800 555111.
