A young Jerseyman has been charged with terrorism offences in the Royal Court.
Mark Alexander Harding was charged last Friday with an offence under the Terrorism (Jersey) Law 2002. The charge was revealed by the Jersey Evening Post, who have reported that Mr Harding (21) is a former Victoria College pupil who is facing two counts under the law, having been arrested in Grouville last month.
Although no public statement was issued when the arrest was made or when Mr Harding appeared in court, the police have now confirmed the arrest and charge.
In a short statement released to the media, they said: “The States of Jersey Police can confirm that following investigation and the execution of a warrant in Grouville on Thursday 2nd October 2014 that Mark Alexander Harding a 21 year old local man has today (Friday 3rd October) been charged with an offence under the Terrorism (Jersey) Law 2002.
“Harding was remanded in custody pending his next court appearance. The offence relates to unlawful activity on the Internet.”
