The Jersey Meteorological Department has issued a yellow weather warning as thunderstorms are expected in the next 24 hours.

Issued at 13:00 this afternoon, the yellow weather warning signals "isolated" thunderstorms and that Channel Islanders should "be cautious".

The weather warning reads: "Isolated thunderstorms are expected to affect the Channel Isles area for the next 24 hours."

According to the MET Department, there are currently reports of a thunderstorm and showers in Guernsey. The duty weather forecaster said: "There is a thundery plume moving upwards from France in a northerly direction."

The thunderstorms are expected to be fairly isolated, but islanders are advised to follow the latest updates on Jersey MET's website or on their social media @Jersey_MetCI.
