‘Tis the season to get jolly

Tuesday 11 November 2014

One of Jersey’s finest Christmas traditions is making an early appearance – and no, it’s not pints at the Lamplighter, lights in the square or queuing up for lottery tickets.

Liberation Christmas Ale is back on tap from Thursday, with free samples on offer at the Cock and Bottle in the Royal Square on the night, and pints on sale at selected Liberation Group pubs, bars and eateries.

The ale relies on Black Butter for its unique festive taste, and is a joint effort between Liberation’s award-winning brewers and the Black Butter produced at the Elms for the National Trust for Jersey. Liberation Group makes a contribution to the trust every year – and this money they are using the money towards the campaign to restore the headland at Plémont, which was bought after a States debate earlier this year and which the trust hope to have cleared by March.

Liberation Group Chief Executive Mark Crowther said: “Our customers like to call this easy drinking beer ‘Christmas in a Glass’ and with the addition of this fantastic and unique ingredient, it’s easy to see why.

“The Ale has a rich, ruby red colour and is especially good enjoyed with winter warming meals and mince pies, which will also be available as part of La Fête dé Noué launch along with carol singing and, of course, the official switching on of the Christmas Lights.

“We are proud to be supporting the National Trust for Jersey for a sixth consecutive year.”

For the uninitiated, Liberation Group describe Liberation Christmas Ale as: “A dark ruby beer brewed with finest pale ale, crystal and chocolate malts and Jersey Black Butter”, adding that “it features all the ingredients you would expect to find in a Christmas pudding recipe; including orange zest, mixed spice, raisins, currants and sultanas”.
