Choo choo-ing through Liberation history... Petit Train offers singalong wartime songs

Wednesday 26 April 2023

Le Petit Train is offering a trip back in time over the Liberation weekend as Jersey celebrates 78 years of freedom from German occupation, with a scenic ride on the promenade across St. Aubin Bay and singalong songs from the WWII era.

This will form part of a wider programme of events beginning with the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6 May and finishing with Liberation Day on Tuesday 9 May.

The programme includes includes coronation celebrations in Coronation Park, a coronation-themed lunch in Liberation Square, a public screening of the Coronation Concert and a thanksgiving service to mark the end of Nazi Occupation.

However, Darren de Louche, the owner of Le Petit Train, says that the rides will offer "something different" during the weekend of celebrations.

Liberation-themed rides were previously offered in 2021, with one islander writing on Facebook: "It was good fun having a sing-song and a nice ice-cream in St. Aubin."

However, this year will be the first time that the rides are fully free of covid restrictions.

The singalong rides will be return trips, departing from Liberation Square with a short stop in St. Aubin before returning to Liberation Square.

These will be available in the run up to Liberation Day, between the 6 and 8 of May. However, the train will not not be running on Liberation Day itself, Tuesday 9 May, due to it being unable to access Liberation Square.
