The Housing Minister has welcomed a decision to approve the creation of around 260 homes on the site of the former Ann Street Brewery as a "triumph" for the island.
Deputy David Warr spoke after the Planning Committee gave approval to the scheme - submitted by Dandara on behalf of Andium Homes - which contains proposals for a mixed-use development of 249 affordable homes, including more than 160 one-bedroom apartments, and nine open-market units.
It also includes plans to refurbish and extend the Grade 3-listed 1820s Sans Souci house into new headquarters for Autism Jersey - and a microbrewery.
The Planning Committee approved the development by four votes to one this morning, after hearing from several islanders either against or in favour of the application.

This included St. Helier Deputy Tom Coles, who raised concerns over the density of the scheme.
Committee member Deputy Steve Luce described the decision as "very finely balanced" but gave his approval, as did Deputy Mary Le Hegarat and constables Kevin Lewis and Richard Honeycombe. Deputy Andy Howell was the only member to refuse the scheme.
Reacting to the decision, Deputy Warr - who attended the meeting - said the current site was "an absolute eyesore at the moment".

"It's great to see this part of town being developed and this has been decades in the making so I think it's fantastic.
"All in all I think the scheme is a triumph."
Addressing concerns over the density of the scheme and number of one-bedroom apartments, he continued: "These are the fine choices that we need to make in St Helier and in this island.
"We can see the demand on the waiting lists are [based] around one-bedroom flats so actually we are matching demand."

"I have to say the scheme overall is tremendous," he added.
